Mother daughter new york getaway

The estate is meticulously maintained. It was heaven. I was awestruck by the sun porch; its massive glass walls were designed to be lowered into the basement. Put me in a silk gown, drape me on a chintz sofa, and surround me with cut hydrangeas.

Long Island is also home to a number of wineries. Unfortunately, none of the wines made my palate sing; fortunately, it meant we left with my wallet still intact. The tasting room was lovely and situated with a terrific view of the vineyards. It must be magnificent in late summer when the vines are laden with ripe fruit. I was a bit underwhelmed as we approached our hotel, the Montauk Beach House.

He led us out into the entertainment area that includes a bar, grill, and plenty of bed-sized, umbrella-shaded, loungers surrounding two heated pools.

The place has a funky, retro feel. Until a massive renovation in it was a seedy efficiency motel known as the Ronjo. Its primary attraction was a giant tiki statue out front. The new owners kept the tiki, painted it bronze, and pitched everything else.

Our Moonlight Suite had dark grey walls, furniture from Restoration Hardware, including two queen-sized beds, and a giant, clawfoot tub. In the room. Sounds weird, but it works. New York hotel rooms are pricey and notoriously small. Not only is it reasonably priced for NYC , but also the guest rooms are some of the largest in the city. Each occupies a footprint of at least sq. Our room sported a king bed, desk, love seat that was actually a fold-out bed , a chair and ottoman.

Adding to the convenience was the NYC Airporter shuttle bus, which transports travelers from LaGuardia and drops off just across the street from the hotel. Why yes, I could fit all four suitcases easily into this New York City hotel room! Photo credit: Westin Grand Central. Pick a few important attractions and remember you can hit up the rest another time. Not me. Gorgeous outdoor ice rinks are a dime a dozen in our Canadian homeland. Instead we watched the skaters twirling on the ice for a bit before moving on.

Our main splurge was a carriage ride through Central Park. Every time I had visited New York, I pined to take a carriage ride, but never did it. Since we bailed on Broadway and skating, I was all too happy to clip clop through the park. Iconic New York landmarks are around every corner! Did we do it all? Put notes in all your dinner reservations.

This city will surprise you with how generous they are! Perfect first night in NYC. It was lovely and so very delicious especially my martini! We shared all our food during the trip. Keeps costs down and let us try more yummy food, plus portions these days are big enough to share. After dinner we head to see a Broadway Show. Get great seats at a huge discount from BroadwayBox.

We had dressed up for the evening but we were far overdressed. Most of the audience was in very casual attire and the theaters are so small that pretty much any seat is a good seat. The night was still young so we head to Times Square. It was crazy! All the stores, including Forever 21 and The Disney Store are over 3 stories tall and stay open till 2 am!

After breakfast provided at the hotel , we take the subway to SoHo for some shopping. On the way as Little Italy touches the edge of SoHo we come upon The San Gennaro Festival , full of stalls with jewelry, clothing, and really yummy nibbles. Our priority is the experience and not necessarily shopping, but then we stumble upon Tierra. After strolling around and soaking in the neighborhood, we make our way to the East Village and put our name in for a couple of seats at the highly recommended Prune restaurant.

There will be a wait but it is so worth it! Absolutely delicious! We sit at the bar, chat up the bartendress and enjoy another shared plate. Until, they surprise sweet girl with a birthday dessert. That, was JUST for her. Love this town and how gracious people are. Let go of any pre-determined notions you may have of NYC. There are kind, helpful, welcoming people everywhere here! Next we head to grab the ultimate NYC dessert.

Frozen Hot Chocolate from Serendipity 2! A huge goblet of a chocolate milkshake that tastes just like hot cocoa. Crazy Huge!
